On May 20, 1937, Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan took off from Oakland, California in a modified Lockheed Electra 10E plane. Their goal was to fly around the world. The trip going east took them through South America, Africa, Indonesia, Australia, and finally to Papua, New Guinea. On July 2nd, they left Lae, New Guinea, heading for Howland Island, a dot in the South Pacific, the longest and next to last stop on their trip.
The two aviators were never heard from again.

Larry E. Zimmerman graduated from the University of Hartford with a major in mathematics and a minor in literature. He worked for and retired from IBM after 25 years as a technical industry specialist. During that time, he taught programming classes and wrote many application programs and manuals for the banking industry. In retirement, he teaches poetry and short story writing classes to adults and senior citizens.
In 2000, Larry won a first place and an honorable mention for his poems at the Windham Area Poetry Project. In 2006, Larry formed The Amston Lake Historical Society, Inc. a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Amston Lake history, and published a history book A History of Amston Lake. In 2017 he published a second version of the history book. In 2009, he was a consultant for an Eagle Scout history project. In 2010, he won an award for a short story in the Whispering River Writer’s contest. As of 2018, Larry has published 25 novels, short story collections, and two poetry books.
Larry lives on the shore of beautiful Amston Lake in Hebron, Ct. where he sails, swims, fishes, and writes his stories and poetry.
